Keener + Ruffalo
My first movie experience with Mark Ruffalo was You Can Count on Me. For many many reasons this movie and his performance moved me. In fact, I was so deeply moved (read: crying cartoon tears…the kind that spurt from your eyes) that Jason had to help me from the theater. (Not because I lost my eyesight, more that it was at the Seven Gables Theater in Seattle which is in an old house with a rickety staircase…just to be clear.)
Since then, his very presence on screen has been some sort of cathartic trigger…Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, The Kids are Alright, even 13 Going on 30 and Just Like Heaven. There’s something about his compassion and depth that I respond to in a way that needs Kleenex.
Catherine Keener is my girl. I want to be just like her. I want crazy wild hair and a huge cackling laugh and understanding eyes. The 40 Year Old Virgin + Into the Wild….I want to be that lady. She brightens every scene, she radiates intelligence and warmth.
This post is only to tell you that I found out they are currently filming a movie together and my emotional response to that movie may be similar to the time Sally found out that Joe was getting married. It turned out he did want to get married, just not to her.
If you are in the theater with me, I apologize in advance. I am a very loud crybaby and it is not pretty.

I am with you, Jen. They are both lovely. I loved Catherine in Where The Wild Things Are, as the mom. Her portrayal of that working woman with smeared eyeliner, trying to have a glass of wine with her boyfriend MARK RUFFALO, while her kid is having a fit. That was a very brief glimpse of the perfection to come.
