Great Book Reminder
One of my favorites of last year, Ready Player One, is now out in paperback.
Plot: A computer genius/billionaire (think Steve Jobs) dies and leaves behind a contest, with the clues hidden inside video games. The winner (who must be fully versed in 1980′s pop culture in order to complete and even understand the challenges) will inherit his fortune. Our heroes are people who live almost entirely within a virtual world, with little to no actual contact with other people. As they band together to win the contest, they might also find the healing that so many of us are searching for…
To celebrate the paperback edition, the author, Ernest Cline, has announced that he hid an “easter egg” within the hardback and the paperback. He says it’s a URL which leads to clues to a video game challenge (like the book) and the winner gets a DeLorean!
I’m no good at such things, but I adore the concept. If one of you wins, I’d love a ride to the Twin Pines Mall.
