News that’s hard to share

Sadly, our Mr. Knightly has passed away. After 15 years together, he was tired and frail and in pain and we knew it was time. We had just returned to Washington state after years away and we like to think he held on in order to get us safely home. It is a heartbreak unlike anything we’ve ever felt, but one of our comforts is how much he was loved by all of our friends.
DSC_0074
We were honored to have him in our care for so many years. Thank you for the all the good times you shared with our little family. We have an empty space that will be tough to fill. As we said to him as he slipped away to peace, “what a good boy you are”
As life must go on in good times and bad, we have rented a little house in Roslyn, WA and are moving in this week to start a new chapter that looks very different from what we planned.
With love,

So sorry for the loss of Mr. Knightly. I always loved hearing about him.

I’ve stepped away from TBTL for a few years, but have so many fond memories of the first few years, You, Sean and Luke were so fun to listen to.

All the best to you and Jason in this next chapter.

  • Suvi Says:

    Jen & Jason,

My heart is breaking for you right now. There is never enough time with the ones we love. Mr. Knightly loved you well and perhaps his job here was done. I hope that, with time, you find that secret drawer of your heart where these pains can be stored. Although they never really go away, after awhile the drawer can be opened with more smiles than tears as the memories spill out. Tonight, my own aging pooch will get an extra little cuddle and I will be thankful for the gift of these creatures who spend their lives in the service of love. Blessings, friends.

    Jen,
I choked up when I heard the news about Mr. Knightly. Losing a pet is so painful. Recently, I listened to the old the episode of TBTL when a substitute vet suggested Mr. Knightly had to lose 5 pounds. It has always been clear that you and Jason provided him with such love.

Thinking of you in New Orleans,
    Shira

    Jen and Jason,

I’m still wiping the tears from my cheeks. Maybe I was caught off guard by this when I saw it on FB tonight but I think it was mostly because I felt a connection with Mr. Knightly and knew (by many experiences) of the loss of a dog. I treasure all the stories you told on TBTL and the photo I have of Mr. Knightly. Thank you SO much for sharing him with us.

    Hugs and bigger hugs,

    Louanne

    Jen,

My heart is breaking for you & Jason. Mr. Knightly had the most spendid life and was loved like no other. He knew that.

I promise that with time the excruciating pain will dull to sadness and then to good memories. We lost our 16 yr. old boy almost 2 years ago and though I get sad when I think of him, I can also smile at how awesome he was.

  • Darlene Hersh Says:

As I read this I cry with you Jen & Jason. My heart breaks for you & all us TENS know how special Mr. Knightly was to your family. Nobody could have given him a better home than you both did & it showed in all the pictures you so kindly shared with all of us, so we all share in your loss. I’m so glad he helped guide you back home to Washington. Just so sorry for your sadness, which nobody can take away from you.

  • Sandy Says:

I actually shed a couple of tears for Mr Knightly and I never even met him! But I know the pain of losing a dog friend, and you always talked so fondly of him. I know he was family. Thinking of you and Jason, Jen. I agree with a comment from above – with time the hurt is less and the smiles are more. What do they say? Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all…

Welcome home to (sweltering) WA! Occasionally Donny and I make it over to Roslyn for a drink at The Brick. Nice quiet town. A whole new chapter for y’all! Best wishes.
    Sandy
