How you feelin’ girl?

This tweet caused an mini-uproar (by which I mean some people disagreed) this morning:

Mindy Kaling immediately responded with “What about when Justin Timberlake says “How you feelin’ girl”

I love it when Justin does it, I love it when Dolly does it in I Will Always Love You, when Pink says “It’s so f**kin on right now” in Raise Your Glass, the whole conversation in Edward Sharpe’s Home…

I’m realizing I actually love spoken asides in songs.

The best ever though, is Boys II Men. When Michael McCary goes all sexy voice in End of the Road, I really believe that he loves me in spite of my constant cheating. He feels pain too!

Dang that’s a good song. (Also this morning on Twitter, Beyonce asked how people are going to help the world on Humanitarian Day…I think putting that song in your head may be my answer. I need to let Bey know right away.)

I love it when singers start speaking as if to say “let’s get real for a second.” It makes me feel as if the rest of the song is for everyone but this part is just between me and Dolly, and she’s going to tell me the true meaning of the song.

Elvis Presley did this a fair amount too. In “Are You Lonesome Tonight?” he suddenly gets really serious and says, “I wonder if… you’re lonesome tonight.” and continues monologuing about the deeper sentiment of the song. Maybe it’s cheesy, maybe it’s trite, but it works for me.

And really, I think we can all agree that the “Oh my God, Becky – look at her butt” intro is responsible for at least 30% of the awesomeness that is “Baby Got Back.”
