They’re here, they’re here (and I have some expectations)
Tonight the Olympics begin in London with the opening ceremonies and my hopes are high.
Traditionally these ceremonies are a celebration of the host country which gives them some really good material. As the Prime Minister once said (by which I mean Hugh Grant in Love Actually), “This is the country of Shakespeare, Churchill, the Beatles… Sean Connery, Harry Potter…. David Beckham’s right foot.”
I would like to see all of that, plus:
pregnant Adele,
heartbroken Robert Pattinson (preferably as the late Cedric Diggory)
Idris Elba and Dominic West (as McNulty and Stringer Bell, but speaking in their British accents)
Boy George and George Michael doing a Wham!/Culture Club medley
Tons of little British kids saying things like “gobsmacked” and “telly”
A Mary Poppins reunion
and finally Charlie and his big brother are a must

Jen, you actually practically described the opening ceremonies. That was the craziest opening ceremony I’ve ever seen. It seemed like an acid trip. I absolutely loved it.
